Troubleshooting

Fixes for common PagePocket problems: failed or interrupted saves, quota errors, sign-in trouble, degraded captures on script-heavy sites, and broken share links.

Last updated

Most PagePocket problems have a short, known cause. This page lists them honestly — including the cases where the limitation is ours or the web's.

Saving problems

"This page can't be downloaded"

The extension works on regular web pages (http and https). Browser-internal pages — chrome:// settings, the Chrome Web Store, the new-tab page — are blocked by the browser itself and cannot be captured by any extension.

"No internet connection — cannot download external resources"

The page's resources (stylesheets, images) are fetched during the save. Check your connection and retry. If your network is fine, a firewall or proxy may be blocking the requests.

The save was interrupted

If the extension's background service is restarted mid-save (browser update, memory pressure), the panel tells you which phase stopped and offers to resume the download or restart it. Resuming continues where the capture left off.

"Please keep this panel open…"

The capture runs through the side panel. If the panel is closed or the tab is switched during a save, it cannot finish. Start the save again and leave the panel open until it reports Ready.

"Cannot start download due to critical memory pressure"

Very large pages with every option enabled can exhaust the browser tab's memory. Retry with fewer options (for example, without linked pages), or without single file mode — the ZIP format is much lighter to produce.

The saved page renders oddly, or looks stripped

Two separate causes, both worth knowing:

  • Script-heavy pages may be degraded. The archived copy is a static document: scripts never run in the viewer (that is what keeps saved pages safe to open). Feeds that load on scroll, embedded apps, and maps can only preserve what was actually rendered while the page was captured. What you see is what was saved — for sites that are essentially applications, a snapshot is not the same as the app.
  • Older saves had a stylesheet bug. A fixed pipeline now resolves every stylesheet, script, and document on the archived copy. If a page saved before mid-October 2026 is missing its styling, simply save it again.

Cloud and account problems

"PagePocket storage quota exceeded" / save rejected with a quota error

Cloud saves are limited per plan: 50 pages per rolling 30 days and 500 MB on Free. When you hit either limit, the save is refused with a message naming the exact limit — nothing was half-saved. Your options: delete pages you no longer need (this frees storage but does not restore saves already counted), wait for the rolling window to move, or upgrade to Pro for 99,999 pages and 10 GB.

"Authentication failed" when signing in

Check the email and password — extension sign-in uses the same account as the website. If you have not registered yet, use the Register tab in the panel or create an account on the site first.

Saved pages are not in my library

Cloud saves appear in the app within moments of the panel reporting Ready. If you saved with PagePocket Cloud Storage switched off, the result went to your Downloads folder as a ZIP or single-file HTML instead — that was the mode you asked for.

Sharing problems

A share link doesn't work

In order of likelihood: it was revoked, its expiry has passed, or the saved page was deleted (a share serves the archived copy — no page, no link). Check the share dialog for the link's status; create a new one if needed.

I lost a share link I already created

The full URL is shown only once, when the link is created — by design, the secret inside it cannot be looked up again afterwards. Open the page's share dialog and create a new link.

Still stuck?

PagePocket is open source: search past issues or open a new one at the GitHub repository — the maintainers read and answer there. That is also the place to request account deletion, which is handled manually today.

Put your archive to work

PagePocket saves full-fidelity pages to a private, searchable library you can share with a link. Free to start.
